Janene Waudby
Ceramics
Janene’s ceramic vessels are inspired by organic forms and surfaces, suggesting found or
naturally occurring objects. The work is low fired and glaze is rarely used, leaving the tactile
clay surfaces to speak. Janene’s pieces all communicate a simple and quiet aesthetic, as if
they have been found in wild or abandoned landscapes.
Janene uses a wide variety of techniques to make her work. Surfaces can take years of
experimentation to fully develop. By using fire, mark making or other methods which cannot
be precisely controlled, each piece is a unique and spontaneous collaboration with the
elements.
Janene has had a lifetime’s obsession with the sea and nature; walking, diving and sailing all
over the world, including around Cape Horn and across the Southern Ocean. She became
a full time artist in 2016, initially living in the Scottish Highlands, and more recently moving to
the Suffolk coast.
